Luke Carlson DDS, MS
Orthodontics is exciting for me on a daily basis because I enjoy the relationships that I build with my patients while helping them achieve their goals of a healthy, attractive, and confident smile. It is rewarding to have a positive influence on a patient’s life and to enhance their self-esteem and confidence. Being an orthodontist is a natural fit for me as it combines my interests and talents in science, knowledge in smile, facial aesthetics, and problem-solving skills. It is fulfilling for me to offer my patients customized orthodontic treatment, to be a part of my patients’ lives, and to see their smile transformation.
I attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated with a major in Biology and concentration in Biomedical Studies. I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota, graduating first in my class. I was invited into the prestigious Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. I knew I wanted to specialize in orthodontics and immediately following graduation from dental school, I continued at the University of Minnesota orthodontic residency program and earned my Master of Science degree and specialty Certificate in Orthodontics.
The specialty of orthodontics is continually advancing in treatment techniques and technology. I believe that continuing education is an essential part to orthodontics in order to provide patients with optimum care and treatment results. I participate at the local, regional, national levels as part of my commitment to helping patients achieve their most healthy and attractive smile.

I am very fortunate to have such an excellent team who care so much about our patients. The energy and enthusiasm our team shares everyday with our patients helps to make orthodontics a fun and enjoyable process.
Life Outside the Office
I was raised in Stillwater, MN, and met Kirstin, my wife, while attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. We found Duluth and the surrounding communities to be a perfect place for us to work, live & raise a family. In my free time, I can most often be found enjoying the outdoors of northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Kirstin and I enjoy hiking on the north shore, running, fishing, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and golfing. In the fall, I enjoy being afield hunting with my dad & brothers. Now that we have made this community our home, I look forward to future running and Nordic skiing events that this area has to offer (I have completed several Twin Cities and Grandma’s Marathon’s as well as several American Birkebeiner ski races).
